Bolero Dresses

Posted on: April 21, 2011

Every woman should wear a dress once or twice in her life. And if you are still clueless on how to dress-up, here is a few beginners’ guide to wearing that dress.

The first thing everyone has to know is the dress code of the party- formal, casual, semi-formal and a lot more. You must know what kind of event one is attending to, this is usually indicated in the invitation cards.

Next are the dress prices. Dress prices come in as cheap as $50 to a top of the line $1000 from well-known designers such as Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. But remember, it is not the price that matters-one can still look glamorous and sophisticated with that yellow dress valued at $50 with the right attitude in wearing it.

Lastly, know your body shape. Body shapes are determined by the waist to hip ratio of a female. These are   V shape which is characterized by small buttocks, big chests and wide shoulders which creates an image of a V-shaped torso, this is typically common among males but a few number of females also have this body-shape. Next is the hour-glass shape characterized by a narrow waist, big chest region because of the breasts and a narrow hip region because of the width of female buttocks, creating an illusion of an hour-glass shape. Another body-shape is the pear shape, it is characterized wider hips and narrow upper body which results in a pear-like structure. The rectangle shape is characterized by similar size of the shoulders, waist and hips. Lastly, the triangle shape is characterized by a wide upper body and a narrow lower body, creating a triangular figure of the body.

Now, after knowing all these, you are ready to choose what dress you are going to wear. If you are the conservative type and do not want to show off skin, the bolero dress is the perfect choice for you. It is mainly a dress or a gown with a matching bolero. The dress is usually made up of silk paired with a satin bolero, bolero jacket or velvet bolero and is usually worn as wedding gowns and prom dresses.

And if you want to show-off your curves and some skin, you may consider wearing a sheath dress. A sheath dress is generally made of light materials such as silk and is intended to snugly fit the body, emphasizing one’s curves and body shape. It typically falls around the knees, making it not short enough for a cocktail dress and not long enough for a long gown. The sheath dress traces its origin way back in the 1900s when the first sheath dresses were worn as under-dresses made from silk and layered with jackets or blazers. Like the bolero dress, the sheath dress is also a popular choice for wedding gowns and prom dresses because of its lightweight and free-flowing material. It is also designed by some well-known designers such as Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs.
